Graduate | Automation Technology

Since starting in the graduate program, I’ve met a lot of other graduates which has really enhanced the experience of working with a large corporate organisation. Not only do you get the sense of being in a community, but you’re also exposed to other domains outside of your immediate scope. In terms of preparing for the future, it’s been a great opportunity to see where else I might want to go if I ever decide to evolve my career outside of what I’m doing right now.

I work in the Automation domain of Suncorp Technology and Transformation, and our squad focuses on performing optimisations for the Banking team and the various tools they use. Automation is ultimately about taking an existing thing and looking for improvements to make it better. The feeling of succeeding at that can be quite addicting.

I love working for an organisation where I can perform the work I really love and see that it’s having a tangible impact on staff and our customers. What’s even better is performing that work in an environment where our colleagues are ambitious, supportive of one another and driven to succeed.

Banking is a significant area for the Suncorp business. Our frontline staff have a duty to support, guide and assist our customers, and they need well-functioning technological tools to perform do that. One of the projects I’m working on for the team is replacing a tool originally built by an external party. The replacement we’re building will be more integrated, efficient and cost-effective, given it’s built in-house. It will also make the tool easier to use for Banking staff, and in turn help them provide a better experience for our customers.

I love working for an organisation where I can perform the work I really love and see that it’s having a tangible impact on staff and our customers. What’s even better is performing that work in an environment where our colleagues are ambitious, supportive of one another and driven to succeed.

If others were considering applying for the Suncorp graduate program, I'd say, “go for it.” Be willing to jump in and share your ideas – you can guarantee you’ll be listened to.
