Supporting our emergency service volunteers this Wear Orange Wednesday

Every year Victoria celebrates Wear Orange Wednesday to give thanks to the thousands of Victorian State Emergency Services (VIC SES) volunteers who serve the Victorian community.

This past year alone, more than 27,000 requests for assistance were submitted to the VIC SES volunteers service, supporting victims of storm, flood, and road accidents, dedicating their time throughout the country’s most devastating bushfire season on record.

With the organisation largely run by the support given by volunteers, their work is all the more vital to Victorian communities right around the state.

Each and every day, VIC SES volunteers put on their recognisable orange-hued uniform, and Wednesday May 20 is an opportunity to do the same. Landmarks right across Melbourne and regional Victoria will be lit up in orange, with communities encouraged to also wear orange and share messages of thanks.

A principal partner of the VIC SES for over 17 years, Suncorp Group’s insurance brand AAMI is proud to support the tireless work of emergency service volunteers, and continues to focus on strengthening community resilience against natural disasters.

"We are incredibly proud of our ongoing partnership with the Victorian State Emergency Services and the work they do within the community right across Victoria," Brooke Murray, Manager, Resilient People & Communities at Suncorp Group says.

"Showing support for Wear Orange Wednesday is an important way for us give thanks to all volunteers that donate their time to help others."

This year, Wear Orange Wednesday celebrations also fall during National Volunteer Week; the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation's volunteers.

And, while 2020 will be a different kind of celebration, communities right across the state are preparing to show their support and are encouraged to share messages and photos on social media using the hashtags #ThankYouSES and #WOWDay.

Here's how we're supporting Wear Orange Wednesday 2020 and how you can, too:

Dress in orange and share a photo or a message of thanks on social media with the hashtags #ThankYouSES and #WOWDay

Host an orange themed event with your household or friends online
