AAMI welcomes Government road safety investment to save lives
The Federal Government’s $500 million funding for road safety, as part of the $1.5 billion package for priority infrastructure projects, is a much-needed funding boost and opportunity to save lives on our roads, according to Suncorp Group's insurance brand AAMI.

The $500 million in funding is reserved specifically to improve road safety, including at known high risk locations, and is part of the Government’s JobMaker plan, which the Prime Minster announced this week.
CEO of AAMI Gary Dransfield welcomed the investment and said it was a great opportunity to make our roads safer right across the country and would have a huge impact on reducing serious crashes and road trauma.
“Additional government investment in practical localised upgrades to improve road safety simply makes sense,” Mr Dransfield said.
As Australia’s largest national motor insurer, AAMI is committed to working to make our roads safer and encouraging drivers to adopt safer driving behaviours.
“We will always strive to make our roads safer. Through our partnership with the Australian Road Safety Foundation, which spans 13 years, AAMI has seen first-hand the life-changing impacts of serious road accidents,” Mr Dransfield said.
“Our annual AAMI Crash Index, which has been running for more than two decades, analyses hundreds of thousands of insurance claims each year to educate drivers on where accidents most commonly occur and how to avoid them.
“Sadly, the latest AAMI Crash Index found the top crash location in each capital city remained largely unchanged, but infrastructure upgrades could make all the difference.
“We hope this latest funding boost for road safety will reduce crashes at these dangerous locations and help to reduce our national road toll.”
AAMI’s research revealed the most dangerous crash hotspots in each state and territory as:
City | Road | Suburb |
National | Plenty Road | Bundoora (VIC) |
