Suncorp Group is incredibly proud to launch a two-year partnership with Black Dog Institute, Australia’s leading mental health research institution.
A key priority for the Group is to create a mentally healthy workplace for our people and ensure our leaders are educated in mental health literacy. Since January 2023, leaders across the business have enrolled in Black Dog Institute’s interactive workshop, providing the Group’s leaders with skills required to support their teams.
“With one in five of us experiencing symptoms of mental illness symptoms in any given year, it’s vital that our people feel supported if they’re facing mental health challenges,” said Fiona Thompson, Group Executive, People, Culture & Advocacy at Suncorp Group.
Leading research from Black Dog Institute shows that evidence-based mental health training can have long-lasting positive impact on the entire workforce, not just those that undergo training programs.
“Organisations that implement programs to support managers and employees can reduce absenteeism, help employees return to work after periods of mental illness, reduce staff turnover, as well as retain and attract talent by actively promoting wellbeing,” said Tasman Cassim of Black Dog Institute.
Tasman Cassim of Black Dog Institute addressed the importance of the Suncorp partnership at a launch event in Suncorp's Brisbane HQ, Heritage Lanes
“Suncorp Group shares Black Dog Institutes vision for a mentally healthier world,” Tasman continued. “Partnerships with corporate organisations like Suncorp Group enable Black Dog Institute to drive evidence-informed change in mental health where it’s needed most.
“Suncorp Group recognises that supporting mental health is more important than ever, this commitment to better outcomes starts from the very top. By investing in science, compassion and action Black Dog Institute and Suncorp Group are protecting what matters and are committed supporting a mentally healthier future," he said.
