Suncorp Group shines silver for LGBTQ+ inclusion

Suncorp Group has been awarded Silver Tier Recognition under the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI).

AWEI is considered the definitive national benchmark on LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion in Australia and drives best practice across all sectors. Our formal recognition acknowledges Suncorp Group’s strong commitment to providing an equitable and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ employees.

Silver Tier recognition is the result of the dedication of the Suncorp Amplify ERG committee and its champions throughout the business

This year’s achievement would not have been possible without the collaboration between Amplify, Suncorp Group’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG), and our People teams who’ve been working closely together to ensure building inclusion at Suncorp Group goes beyond surface action.

The annual Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards ceremony was attended by several Suncorp Group employees including Amplify ERG Co-Chair Livi Sinden and Group Diversity & Inclusion Manager Catherina Behan, both of whom were nominated for individual awards.

“This accomplishment is the result of the unwavering dedication of the Amplify ERG committee, coupled with the extensive support and collaboration from so many different areas of the business,” Ms Sinden said.

We are steering Suncorp towards becoming an employer that is truly explicitly inclusive. I am so proud to be celebrating this milestone.

Ms Sinden, a Senior Insights Advisor at Suncorp Group, was nominated for the Sally Webster Award for her outstanding contributions as an LGBTQ+ ally at Suncorp and in the community. Ms Behan was shortlisted for the Sapphire Inspire Award and nominated for the LGBTQ+ Role Model Award for her work towards workplace inclusion and encouraging visibility at Suncorp.

“Silver tier accreditation as an LGBTQ+ inclusive organisation is a fantastic recognition of Suncorp’s commitment to diversity and inclusion,” Ms Behan said.

It acknowledges the many LGBTQ+ employees and allies who work hard every day to make their teams, offices, and branches, safe and welcoming for everyone.

Suncorp Group is committed to building an inclusive culture where our people feel a genuine sense of belonging

Suncorp Group is continually working to make our organisation a more inclusive and diverse place, where everyone feels valued, involved, and respected.

In 2023, Suncorp Group announced the introduction of new leave entitlements for employees affirming their gender. Six weeks’ paid Gender Affirmation Leave, and up to 12 months unpaid leave, is offered to applicable Suncorp employees, allowing those employees to have the time and financial support required to engage in the steps they need to affirm their gender.

One key factor contributing to Suncorp’s recognition this year was the proactive measures taken to include more LGBTQ+ inclusive language in employee policies and resources, such as the domestic and family violence policy to address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals.

Group Executive People, Culture & Advocacy Fiona Thompson said the recognition was a testament to the passion and tenacity of our people.

This is an outstanding achievement, not only for Suncorp but for everyone who's worked so hard and collaborated so effectively to make it happen.

“I’d especially like to recognise Amplify for their involvement, and for the continuous commitment they've shown to championing diversity and inclusion for our people across the organisation.”
