Suncorp Insurance and the Queensland Police Service (QPS) have once again joined forces to help make Queensland a safer place to live, work and play.

Applications for the Safer Queensland Community Grants program are now open to community groups and police across the state until 16 July 2012.

The program offers community groups and police the opportunity to apply for one-off grants between $1,000 and $10,000 to develop and implement road safety and crime prevention projects throughout the state.

Suncorp Insurance Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Snowball, said Suncorp was excited to be partnering with QPS again, and looked forward to helping Queensland’s police, community groups and clubs.

“Last year we provided $160,000 in grants to 23 community groups throughout the state for initiatives that promoted road safety and reduced crime or the fear of crime, and in 2012 we’re looking forward to helping even more.”

“The program was created to provide support to the many groups, clubs and organisations out there who contribute so much to our local Queensland communities.”

“We’re hoping to see local government councils, PCYCs, not-for-profit organisations and community groups apply for grants and help continue to make Queensland a great, safer place to live.”

QPS Assistant Commissioner Operations Support Command Peter Martin said he was eager to see the different initiatives to be rolled out within Queensland communities.

“Last year we received a number of outstanding applications with strong ideas and I think this year the calibre of applications will be even better.”

“We’re pleased to be able to partner with Suncorp Insurance and the people of Queensland, as we work together to make local communities safe and secure places to live.”

The Safer Queensland Community Grants program is designed to enable local communities to develop and implement projects that will improve road safety or help reduce crime and fear of crime in Queensland.

Applications are open until 16 July 2012; interested community groups can visit suncorp.com.au/saferqld to apply.
