The funding boost comes from an ongoing partnership between Suncorp and the Confident Girls Foundation, a not-for-profit that helps girls from disadvantaged backgrounds through netball.
The funds are raised through a donation pool that increases by $100 every time a player in the Suncorp Super Netball scores a Suncorp Super Shot.
With an impressive 727 goals netted in 2024, the partnership has once again proven a winning formula for netball clubs impacted by severe weather.
Suncorp Chief Executive Consumer Insurance Lisa Harrison said for many regional towns, netball clubs were more than just sporting venues, they’re vital community hubs.
“When extreme weather happens, damaging courts and facilities, the impact ripples far beyond the players, the whole community is impacted,” she said.
“We know participation in sport is invaluable for building critical life skills, particularly among girls, such as resilience, confidence, support networks and more."
Former Aussie Diamond and Confident Girls Foundation Community Engagement Lead Laura Scherian said the collaboration with Suncorp helped netball clubs get back to the game sooner following a disaster.
“All funds raised directly help girls get access to a sport that empowers and fosters their growth by helping clubs rebuild after disaster,” she said.
"That’s why ensuring they have the facilities to play, grow and thrive in such a great sport is absolutely vital to individuals and their communities."
The Confident Girls Foundation champions girls from disadvantaged backgrounds through netball, offering equipment, counselling services, educational guidance and employment assistance.
The latest injection of funds has so far benefitted clubs impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in Downey Park, west Brisbane and Tamborine Mountain.
It has also helped several clubs hit hard by flooding in New South Wales, including Macleay, Manning Valley and Nambucca.
