Suncorp Super delivers bright returns

Suncorp’s superannuation members have benefitted from chart-topping investment performance that beat comparable superannuation funds and generated strong returns in turbulent markets.

Suncorp’s Brighter Super - Multi-Manager Growth Fund had the strongest annual performance of any comparable fund, according to two superannuation research houses, Super Ratings and Chant West.

The fund’s performance helped grow members’ retirement savings by 3.8 per cent* over the 2019-2020 financial year, despite ongoing volatility across global financial markets that saw most super funds go backwards. Over the past three years, the fund has generated 8.2 per cent* for members, which is also the strongest performance among comparable funds according to Super Ratings.

Suncorp’s Executive General Manager – Wealth, Shailendra Singh said Suncorp’s disciplined and targeted investment strategy helped his investment team to grow member funds despite the economic fallout from COVID-19 on financial markets.

“The performance of our Multi-Manager Growth Fund is the result of our dedicated teams’ continued focus to generate active returns above the benchmark for our members,” Mr Singh said.

“We focused particular attention on spreading investments across different asset classes, industry sectors and geographies, which helped us to generate good performance when overall markets were falling.”

The fund made a larger weighting in international shares, and generated strong returns from US, Japanese and Canadian equities. The fund also benefited from having a lower exposure to listed property which suffered sharp declines early in the COVID-19 crisis.

“Our market-leading performance was driven by our valuation-focused approach, which targets investment purchases in asset types with attractive prices.”

Looking ahead, Mr Singh said the investment team would continue to assess the appropriate investment strategy as economic conditions evolve.

“We are focused on keeping up this momentum and delivering strong outcomes for our members,” Mr Singh said.

Suncorp Brighter Super includes a Multi-Manager High Growth Fund which provides an investment strategy that allocates a diversified investment mix depending on the life stage of the member.
