Darren’s new retirement lifestyle includes support from Apia when it matters most

Recent retiree Darren and his wife Cindy are settling into their new lifestyle in the country.

They've found the freedom to enjoy a more relaxed pace of life since moving from Brisbane to a property in Queensland’s scenic Mary Valley.

Darren explained that there is a great sense of community, which became more important as they reached retirement age.

“I'm 57 and recently retired in January this year. Cindy and I have four adult children and five young grandchildren,” Darren explained.

“I remember as a kid I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, and now I want to spend time with my grandkids; that is important to me.

“My kids and grandkids love coming up for adventures on and around the farm.

“Retirement for me is all about making memories and spending more time here with my family.”

Apia offers genuine support when customers need it most

Part of Suncorp, Apia provides various insurance options such as car, home, landlord, and health insurance, specifically tailored for customers over 50.

The Apia team is committed to delivering value and genuine care throughout every interaction, prioritising customers and understanding the unique stage of life they are in.

Darren previously assumed that they didn’t meet the criteria for Apia insurance, until Cindy told him that they did indeed qualify, and that they should investigate whether it could meet their needs.

“I’d seen the Apia ads on TV and I always thought it was for people much older than me. I never thought about it as an option,” Darren said.

“Then one day while we were still in Brisbane, after we turned 50, Cindy said we should take a look at Apia, because we qualify.

“We've been with Apia for four years now.”

Before their country move, Darren and Cindy had a positive experience with Apia after torrential rainfall collapsed their garage roof.

During a particularly severe summer storm in 2022, Darren and Cindy’s Brisbane property received up to 400mls of rainwater over a short period of time. Their garage gutters just couldn’t cope, and the entire roof caved in.

Part of the reason they chose Apia to protect their new country home was due to the positive experience they had with the Apia team with their roof claim.

Apia customer, Darren

Apia was great through that process. The whole communication process was really smooth. They really cared about doing the right thing by me.

“They were very caring on the phone, and they explained things really clearly, too which I appreciated,” Darren said.

“They regularly communicated with us. To me, customer service and talking to somebody on the phone is really important.

"Apia’s online navigation was good too, however when you’re going through something unsettling like property loss or damage, it helps to be able to speak to a person who cares.”

The positive experience with Apia motivated Darren and Cindy to continue with the insurer after they purchased their new home.

“Moving from the city to the country, there were many important factors to consider, and vehicle and property insurance was right at the top of that list.

“When you need an insurance company, you really need them; that’s why we chose Apia. And that’s why I recommend Apia to my friends and family.”

Every customer’s situation is unique, and Apia is committed to caring about everyone's story.
