R U OK? Day is no longer just a National Day of Action, it’s a reminder for people to have important mental health conversations any day, because life’s ups and downs can happen every day.
Suncorp strives to create a mentally healthy workplace for our people every day, and ensures there is awareness, education and support at all levels of the organisation.
How to ask R U OK?
Suncorp’s partnership with the Black Dog Institute, an independent not-for-profit medical research institute, was established in 2023 to help our employees and customers feel supported and educated on how to look after their own mental health.
A key outcome of the partnership to date is the development of new training and education workshops and courses for Suncorp leaders and their teams, informed by Black Dog Institute medical research and curated by its scientists and experts.
Suncorp Executive General Manager Workforce Jen Delves emphasised the importance of mental health and resilience for our people at Suncorp.
“We support all employees to always focus on their safety and wellbeing - from senior leaders setting the tone for a culture of respect and fostering healthy connections at work, to team members taking the right action every day to protect their own safety and wellbeing and that of others,” she said.
Empowering connection and support
R U OK? is a national suicide prevention charity and registered public health promotion that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times.
Its mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with those in their world and lend support when they are struggling with life.
Research from Beyond Blue shows almost half of Australians have experienced a mental health condition in their lifetime - a staggering statistic that reminds us that a simple conversation can change a life.
At Suncorp, many of our people work closely with customers suffering trauma, personal hardship or injury. We offer a range of tools and resources to support our people in these moments and beyond, including our Employee Assistance Program that offers 24/7 services, and bespoke mental health training through our Black Dog Institute partnership.
