Empowering the next generation of motorsport enthusiasts

Shannons is Australia's leading insurance provider for motoring enthusiasts and partners with the FIA delegated national motorsport authority, Motorsport Australia, to advocate for the interests of its passionate community.

Shannons is proud to have been a platinum partner of the FIA Girls On Track (GoT) initiative since 2024, helping drive participation among young women in the motorsport industry by facilitating learning opportunities and career pathways.

The partnership builds on Shannons' longstanding partnership with Motorsport Australia and the Shannons SpeedSeries, a premier motorsport series in Australia featuring a variety of racing categories and events.

The Girls on Track Program is brought to life with 26 curated events and experiences, including Shannons SpeedSeries events, rolled out over the year.

These experiences include the largest sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere - the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne - and regional events like the ARC - Rally Queensland in Gympie.

Shannons Executive Manager Customer Service, Judi King, emphasised the significance of the Girls on Track initiative, highlighting the positive impact the partnership brings to the motorsport community as more women are encouraged to enter the industry.

“Our platinum partnership will see Shannons support Motorsport Australia in growing participation among women in the motorsport industry by facilitating learning opportunities and career pathways.

It’s more than a program; it’s a powerful investment in the future of motorsports as we see more young women pursue their passion with meaningful careers on and off the track.

The initiative is open to women aged eight to 22 years old and encourages them to participate via three key pillars – Inspire, Pathways and Empower.

Most of the participants attend university or equivalent tertiary studies in an industry-relevant course and share a passion for motorsport.

Shannons Partnerships & Engagement Lead Andrew Adamson explained that events such as the Shannons SpeedSeries are the perfect platform for Girls on Track to provide a tangible understanding of the motorsport industry.

“The team at Shannons are incredibly excited about our partnership with the FIA Girls on Track Program,” Andrew said.

“We couldn’t think of a better opportunity than getting them [GoT participants] here and involved at the Shannons SpeedSeries.

"The young women are going to get immersed in the real-life experiences of the overall event.”

To promote the program, Motorsport Australia is launching a three-part video series to explore the impact of the program and share the stories of the participants.

The first episode focuses on the Empower component of Girls on Track, which facilitates real-world working experiences for participants who are pursuing a career in motorsport, where they gain exclusive insights into how the Australian motorsport industry operates.

Development Manager for Motorsport Australia, Charlie Barlow, said plenty of participants end up pursuing a motorsport career.
