Graduate program 2026: Meet the Technology & Operations graduates driving transformation at Suncorp

T&O powers Suncorp’s operations and digital transformation.

Our graduates are part of a forward-thinking team shaping the future of financial services through cyber security, data, digital platforms and delivery.

Graduate Talent Advisor Kelly Pfeffer spoke about the “supportive environment” at Suncorp.

“Our technology teams have a long tradition of supporting students from entry level to fully qualified technicians,” she said.

“I think there are so many great internal opportunities not only for ongoing training, but collaboration and innovation too.

“It doesn’t matter if they have done an internship somewhere else or no internship at all.

I encourage students to consider our programs, particularly if they want a supportive environment that will help them transition from study to work.

During the two-year graduate program, there is the opportunity for graduates to rotate through different roles within their specialty stream.

In Australia, there are three graduate streams in T&O, each with a unique focus area, and they are Business Analysis (Non-Technical), Cyber Security (Technical) and Software Engineering (Technical).

In New Zealand, there is one Technology program, with rotations available in full-stack engineering, data engineering, test engineering and business analysis.

We spoke to Imaan and Jamie, who both joined Suncorp's graduate program earlier this year, to find out about their experiences.

Imaan, Brisbane

Imaan was previously an intern at Suncorp and she gained experience as a Business Analyst (BA) managing system enhancements in the Motor Claims space.

She continued this role on a casual basis during the final year of her Information Technology degree at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

It was an easy decision when she was offered a place on Suncorp's 2025 graduate program on the Non-Technical T&O stream.

“I got offered other graduate schemes, but what drew me to Suncorp was that during my internship and casual role everyone was so friendly and valued my opinions and a fresh perspective,” Imaan said.

"I had heard about internships where you are just a ‘fly on the wall’ observing, but at Suncorp I got hands-on experience and the culture was amazing.”

This collaborative workplace culture has continued to inspire Imaan as a graduate and she has worked as a Scrum Master and BA to date.

A Scrum Master helps agile teams stay on track for delivery and Imaan has been able to shadow and then backfill a role while a colleague was on leave, which she found “incredibly rewarding”.

Technology & Operations Graduate, Imaan

To be able to take on the responsibilities of a Scrum Master just six months into the graduate program showed me that Suncorp value my contributions and trust me to step up.

Speaking about her current BA role, Imaan said: “I work closely with a product owner to gather and refine requirements.

“I then analyse and document them for the product owner and create user stories and acceptance criteria that help prioritise work.”

Imaan has praised the inclusivity at Suncorp and she has been able to be authentically herself at work.

Imaan is part of a netball team with some of her colleagues, who have become her friends, and she supports her peers as a member of the Graduate Committee.

She added: “I love that the people I work with come from all different backgrounds, it makes collaborating with others more interesting and exciting.”

Jamie, Auckland

Jamie is also in our 2025 graduate program intake and he works at Suncorp’s Auckland office.

He studied Software Development & Digital Services at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT).

It was then he really found his groove, having previously been to two other universities studying Japanese and then accounting.

He knew people who were already on the Suncorp graduate program and their positive experience inspired him to apply.

“The New Zealand graduate community is close knit and those on the program and from previous intakes all support each other and socialise,” Jamie said.

“One of the main reasons why I chose this program is because I wanted to work somewhere where you collaborate with other people and get to try out different roles.”

In his first rotation, he worked as a Full-Stack Engineer helping to modernise the technology that powers Suncorp, from retiring legacy services to enhancing security and internal systems.

He is now working as a Data Scientist, looking into the data quality in Suncorp’s database and coming up with solutions.

Suncorp has won awards for its innovation in AI and Jamie has been able to leverage this to improve efficiency in his work.

He has praised the access to his leaders and echoed Imaan’s comments on the positive workplace culture.

Technology & Operations Graduate, Jamie

I have weekly catch-ups with my leaders and they are great at giving feedback. I feel like I can be completely honest with my goals and any issues I have.

Jamie was 10 when his family relocated across the world from Scotland to New Zealand.

As well as being a “big adventure”, it built resilience in him and he has carried this into adulthood and his working life.

He is also a keen gamer and organises tournaments in his spare time.

“If I can run a tournament for 100 people, then I can definitely give a presentation at work,” he said.

“I’ve had a lot of opportunities in my life to get outside my comfort zone, so at this point being outside my comfort zone is where I like to be.”
