Suncorp wins gold at the LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Awards

(L-R): Andrea Gordon (Suncorp EM Safety, Wellness & Res), Bernadette Norrie (Suncorp Head of Group Customer Advocate), Balint Hegyes (Suncorp Online Content Producer; Amplify Content Lead), Adrian Letilovic (Suncorp D&I Advisor), Olivia Sinden (Suncorp Insights Lead; Amplify Co-Chair), Brooke Newman (Suncorp EGM Procurement, Partnering & RE), Allan James Malcolm (Suncorp Manager Partner Governance & Planning; Amplify Co-Chair), George Fotinos (Suncorp 1:1 Campaign Automation Specialist), Eddie Sahovic (Suncorp Risk Manager).

Suncorp has been awarded Gold Tier Recognition under the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) coordinated annually by Pride in Diversity - a program of ACON and Australia’s first and leading national not-for-profit employer support program for all aspects of LGBTQIA+ inclusion.

The announcement was made last Friday at the Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards held in the ICC, Sydney.

AWEI is Australia’s definitive national benchmark on LGBTQIA+ workplace inclusion. AWEI describes Gold recognition as the “highest recognition obtainable for the current year outside of the longevity of Platinum Employer recognition. Gold recognition is an outstanding achievement and organisations that obtain this recognition should be applauded for their level of activity over the given year.”

This is a historic milestone for Suncorp and our people, building on the foundation of our previous Silver Tier Recognition in 2024 and 2019. Our formal recognition acknowledges Suncorp’s strong commitment to providing an equitable and supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ employees.

Gold Tier Recognition is the result of the collaboration and passionate drive of the Suncorp Amplify Employee Resource Group (ERG) committee and its champions throughout the business.

This year’s recognition was the direct result of the dedication and cumulative effort of Amplify, Suncorp’s LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group (ERG), and our Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) and People teams. The two groups have been working closely together over the last 12 months to make sure that building inclusion is at the heart of everything we do for our customers and our people at Suncorp.

Suncorp Chief Executive People, Legal & Corporate Services, Belinda Speirs, reflected on what the win meant for Suncorp: “Suncorp being recognised as a Gold Employer for the first time is an outstanding achievement. I’d like to thank our Suncorp employees who strive to champion inclusivity across all areas of our business."

At Suncorp, we recognise that an inclusive workplace is essential to driving positive outcomes for our customers, people and partners.

Suncorp is committed to building an inclusive culture where our people can bring their whole, authentic selves to work every day.

Suncorp is continually working to make our organisation a more inclusive and diverse place where everyone feels valued, involved, and respected.

In 2023, Suncorp introduced six week’s paid Gender Affirmation Leave, and up to 12 months unpaid leave, for Suncorp employees who needed to have the time and financial support to engage in the steps they need to affirm their gender.

2025 has also been a significant year so far for diversity and inclusion at Suncorp. Some achievements that lead to our Gold Tier recognition included creating a Resource Hub for First Line Leaders to help support LGBTQIA+ employees and proudly introducing an official purple Suncorp polo shirt for Wear it Purple Day.

The Amplify ERG also had great ongoing success with the ‘Amplified Voices’ podcast series, helping educate our people on the broad spectrum of LGBTQIA+ identities.

Suncorp Executive General Manager People and Amplify’s Co-executive Sponsor, Matt Leslie, commented on Suncorp’s win: “I’m incredibly proud to be part of an organisation so dedicated to LGBTQIA+ Inclusion.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the extraordinary efforts of Amplify co-chairs Olivia Sinden and Allan Malcolm, the Amplify ERG committee, the incredible D&I Team, and so many other individuals who contributed to the different aspects of the submission.”
