Suncorp has once again been recognised at the Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards, taking home Silver Tier Recognition under the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI).
The announcement was made at the awards ceremony held in Sydney on 29 May.
AWEI is coordinated annually by Pride in Diversity – Australia’s first and leading national not-for-profit employer support program for all aspects of LGBTQ+ inclusion.
It is widely regarded as the national benchmark for workplace inclusion in Australia.
Silver recognition reflects Suncorp’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ employees and customers, and highlights continued progress in embedding inclusive practices across the organisation’s systems, leadership and employee experience.
This achievement builds on Suncorp’s strong performance in the AWEI, following Gold Tier Recognition in 2025 and previous Silver Tier Recognition in 2024 and 2019.
The result is made possible through the collaboration and dedication of Suncorp’s Amplify Employee Resource Group (ERG), alongside the Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) and People teams, working in partnership across the business to drive meaningful and sustainable inclusion outcomes.
Suncorp Chief Executive People, Legal & Corporate Services Belinda Speirs says the recognition highlights the importance of inclusion to the organisation’s strategy and long-term performance.
“Achieving Silver Tier Recognition reflects the strength of our continued focus on inclusion at Suncorp,” Ms Speirs says.
“Inclusion remains fundamental to how we build a strong, sustainable business,” she says.
Over the past year, Suncorp has continued to make meaningful progress in LGBTQ+ inclusion, with a focus on embedding inclusive practices into everyday experiences for employees and customers.
This includes strengthening allyship across leadership, improving systems to better reflect diverse identities, and investing in targeted education and leadership initiatives.
Chief Risk Officer and Amplify Executive Sponsor Bridget Messer says the recognition reflects the collective effort across the organisation.
“This recognition is a strong reflection of the commitment our people bring to building a more inclusive Suncorp,” Ms Messer says.
“Over the past year, we have continued to embed inclusive practices across our systems, leadership and ways of working – creating an environment where people feel a genuine sense of belonging and can perform at their best.
At Suncorp, we’re committed to building an inclusive culture where our people can bring their whole, authentic selves to work every day.
Suncorp continues to invest in initiatives that support inclusion and advocacy across the organisation and the broader community.
In 2023, Suncorp introduced six week’s paid Gender Affirmation Leave, and up to 12 months unpaid leave for Suncorp employees requiring time and financial support to engage in the steps they need to affirm their gender.
Recent initiatives also include:
- Launching Suncorp’s first dedicated Pride logo to support visibility across Pride Month and LGBTQ+ awareness campaigns.
- Continuing strategic partnerships with organisations including InsurePride and the Pride in Practice Conference, and sponsoring the Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards and Moreton Bay PrideFest.
- Expanding our employee support resources and contributing to more inclusive system design, including improvements to gender identity and pronoun recognition.
- Delivering education through the Amplified Voices podcast and Lunch & Learn series, supporting greater awareness of LGBTQ+ identities and experiences for Suncorp’s people.
Suncorp remains committed to building an inclusive culture where people feel respected, valued and able to bring their whole selves to work, and to continuing its progress towards even greater levels of inclusion in the years ahead.
