Queensland's largest insurer Suncorp today kick started the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal with a $50,000 donation to assist residents affected by the south-east Queensland storms on Sunday November 16.

Chief executive John Mulcahy announced the donation while touring affected areas in The Gap and Ashgrove this morning.

Mr Mulcahy met with Suncorp customers and encouraged all affected residents to lodge their insurance claims as soon as they were able to do so.

"Suncorp is committed to its customers through good times and bad and I offer my sympathy to all residents who have been affected by this storm.

"I strongly urge any customers who have been impacted to contact Suncorp as soon as they can so we can get their damage assessed and their claims processed as quickly as possible."

Mr Mulcahy said the Suncorp Group companies, including AAMI, Vero, Apia, Shannons and Just Car, had sent more than 250 support staff, including assessors, to the area to assist customers.

The Group had received approximately 4,500 claims by 3pm yesterday. A cost estimate for the storm will be provided once claims in affected areas have been assessed.

Queenslanders can make a donation to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal at any Suncorp branch.
