Suncorp celebrates its 5th year as Principal Partner of Netball Australia

A principal partner of the Suncorp Super Netball since 2017, Suncorp is incredibly proud to support women’s sport, having backed both grassroots initiatives with our introductory netball program, Suncorp Net Set Go, right through to our sponsorship of the Suncorp Super Netball and the Australian Women’s netball team, the Diamonds.

Group CEO Steve Johnston said Suncorp’s five-year partnership with Netball Australia is testament to our ongoing commitment to supporting the growth of women’s sport in Australia.

"Since taking on the Netball Australia partnership in 2017, I have been incredibly proud to see Suncorp associated with a sports program that is lifting the prominence of women’s sport in Australia."

Suncorp Super Netball is not only giving elite female athletes a national platform to play the sport they love and gain the national recognition they deserve, but also inspire future generations of young sporting players to have the confidence and belief that they can achieve great things.

Suncorp’s initiative, Team Girls, which also launched in 2017, has built upon the sport’s popularity in schools across the country, promoting self-esteem and empowerment in girls both on and off the court. With women’s sport gaining increased recognition in recent years, Team Girls has proven to play a critical role in the community, raising awareness and giving greater access to the game to both school-level players and aspiring athletes.

Suncorp Super Netball’s latest campaign is an ode to how far the love of the game has come; in the last five years, audience numbers have increased year on year, with Netball Australia continuing to attract new fans each season. In 2020 alone, 3.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the SSN season - up 5% from 2019.

“The success of the league also extends to a community level, encouraging more local participation and bringing families together – something we will all missed during the pandemic," Mr. Johnston continued. "Our latest campaign really captures the power of sport, not only for the people playing the game, but for their supporters on the sideline cheering them on.”

This year seven countries are represented in the Suncorp Super Netball League – Australia, England, Jamaica, South Africa, Malawi, Uganda, Trinidad, and Tobago. Suncorp Super Netball Commission Chair Marina Go said season 2021 is about celebrating netball and the special relationship between the fans, their team, and the sport.

“The new Suncorp Super Netball season will bring back the sense of community and connection our fans are searching for after a year for many that saw them unable to attend games. “We are thrilled the season is finally here and we know that is shared by our clubs, athletes, fans, and stakeholders."
