How Suncorp is celebrating Wellbeing Month this February

Our people are at the heart of what we do, and while Suncorp actively encourages and supports individual wellbeing year-round, we know that embracing our health together is a positive step forward to ensure our people feel their best both at work and at home.

Given that one in five Australian workers is currently experiencing a mental health condition, and one in six New Zealand adults have been diagnosed with a common mental health condition at some stage in their lives, we know just how important mental and physical wellbeing is to our people. That’s why we make it our priority.

Throughout Wellbeing Month, we focus on how to achieve long-term wellbeing goals. Alongside internal initiatives and workshops, Suncorp held several speaking events with Beyond Blue ambassadors, where personal journeys were shared, while also discussing ways to manage mental health in the workplace.

I feel honoured and privileged to host this discussion; talking about our mental and emotional wellbeing is important. We want our people to feel comfortable to talk about personal challenges and encourage each other to ask for help if they are having a difficult time.

For the first time, Suncorp also hosted the panel discussion, ‘My Brave Face’, hosted by Suncorp’s Chief Customer and Digital Officer, Lisa Harrison, featured Suncorp panellists all sharing their own moments where they’ve had to ‘put on a brave face’.

Speaking at the event, Ms Harrison said “I feel honoured and privileged to host this discussion; talking about our mental and emotional wellbeing is important. We want our people to feel comfortable to talk about personal challenges and encourage each other to ask for help if they are having a difficult time”.

Lisa and panellists took to the stage to share personal experiences, which was followed by a Q&A session with the 100-strong audience speaking openly about their wellbeing journeys.

Speaking about the ongoing importance and positive awareness she hopes Wellbeing Month and events such as My Brave Face will have, Lisa said, “We want our people to feel comfortable to talk about personal challenges and encourage each other to ask for help if they are having a difficult time.

Asking for support at the times when you need it the most can often lighten the load, and through highlighting Wellbeing Month, we hope to create a safe space where individuals feel heard and supported.”
