The significant rainfall and flooding event is continuing to impact communities in and around Townsville, Innisfail, Ingham, Gordonvale, Cardwell, and elsewhere across North and Far North Queensland.

Suncorp’s Chief Executive Consumer Insurance Lisa Harrison said the insurer was ready to support customers and impacted communities.

“Our dedicated Lodgement Response Team is ready to quickly scale up to help customers on the phones, while our customer support teams, assessors and builders will be on the ground as soon as it is safe,” Ms Harrison said.

“Once our Mobile Disaster Response Hub arrives, it will offer customers face-to-face access to our specialist customer support team, as well as the ability to power up devices and connect with loved ones through our Wi-Fi accessibility.”

I want to reassure our customers and impacted communities that our teams are here to help.

Once a claim is lodged, we can arrange temporary accommodation, make emergency payments and help arrange emergency repairs if needed.

Ms Harrison reiterated right now community safety was the priority, as the weather event was still unfolding.

“We ask all residents to put safety first, remain alert and listen to emergency warnings and advice,” she said.

What to do if your home has been impacted

  • Impacted customers can easily lodge their claims online for any of our insurance brands, including Suncorp Insurance, AAMI, Apia and Shannons.
  • You don’t need to be at home or have a copy of your policy to lodge your claim – we will have your details.
  • Our claims contact centres are also available 24/7 to provide support.
  • If your home is damaged and you can safely access, you don’t need to wait for an insurance assessor to come to begin cleaning up. Simply make a list and take photos of damaged items, including model numbers, to help us replace them.
  • Safety first: Ensure there are no safety risks before entering your property. Only return once emergency services have given the all-clear. If water has entered your property, do not turn on electricity until inspected by a licensed electrician.
  • Keep your home as ventilated as possible.
  • Remove wet contents (carpets, curtains etc) but take photos.
