Suncorp has collaborated with Mastercard in Australia to offer cashback reward programs for eligible home and motor car insurance customers who take preventative measures to drive safer and make their homes more resilient.

Prevention is paramount with new Mastercard rewards program

Suncorp is proud to announce an enhancement to its existing AAMI Driver Rewards and Suncorp My Home customer programs. 

Both these initiatives are well-established and were designed to educate and empower our car and home insurance customers to take preventative measures to drive safer and make their homes more resilient.  

The new collaboration with Mastercard is another step as we look to reward customers, as well as advocate for safer, more resilient behaviour.

We are also in a unique position as the largest motor insurer in Australia to help our customers be safer on the roads through relevant insights and now rewarding safe driving.

Australia's road toll tragically rises every year, and trying to change driver behaviour to make our roads safer is a challenge that needs innovative solutions from government, industry and the community.

For the past three decades, AAMI’s Crash Index has been educating drivers on the importance of using safe driving habits and avoiding behaviours that lead to accidents.  

The motor insurer is also proud to have longstanding partnerships with advocacy organisations such as the Australian Road Safety Foundation. 

In recent years, data and technology have become driving forces towards safer driving behaviour.

The AAMI Driver Rewards (ADR) program launched in the AAMI app in 2022. It uses telematics, cloud, personalisation, mobile sensors, AI and data to help users ‘keep score’ and improve their driving behaviours. The app gives drivers feedback on different elements of their driving, such as acceleration, braking, speeding, and phone use. Each month drivers receive a score out of 100. 

This gamification of safer driving is proving successful - the AAMI Crash Index ‘Decade of Driving’ report from 2024 said that since the app’s launch, data captured found 39 per cent of drivers gradually improved their safe driving score, while more than half (52%) who had low driving scores (below 85/100) when they started ended up improving their score. Regular use of the app made them safer drivers. 

The new rewards collaboration with Mastercard helps amplify the safety message to AAMI drivers, offering cashback rewards for safe driving (high) scores.

With the Mastercard reward component coming into play now, we hope to see these safe driving behaviors amplified even further – the importance of which can’t possibly be overestimated.

How does it work? 

On the first day of every month, each customer who holds an eligible AAMI insurance policy* and has a score of 85+ from AAMI Driver Rewards will unlock a suite of retailer cashback offers. 

The retailers participating in the program include Ampol, IGA, MyCar, Magic Carwash, Supercheap Auto, JB Hi FI, Myer, Amazon and The Good Guys. 

To create a seamless experience, eligible customers simply add their Mastercard or Visa account details and activate the cashback offers of their choosing within the app. They can then shop with participating retailers, and the cashback is deposited back into their account. 

Rewarding home resilience 

Suncorp’s dedicated to our role in not only supporting communities to recover from natural disasters, but to also help them to be better prepared for the future.

Suncorp has developed a four-point plan for a more resilient Australia, including supporting households to encourage resilience upgrades. Recent Suncorp data showed that more than 2.7 million Australian addresses are high-risk of at least one extreme weather peril, such as bushfires, floods, cyclones, and storms. 

Suncorp's significant investments in technology are key to helping individual households stay on top of appropriate resilience measures that help better protect their property against wild weather. 

The My Home feature launched within the Suncorp Insurance app in February 2024 and has empowered customers to build resilience in their homes via a maintenance task list and helpful tips and tricks. And now, completion of these tasks can earn cashback rewards, too.  

How does it work? 

The new rewards collaboration with Mastercard helps encourage proactive home maintenance, by offering customers who complete more than three tasks by the first of each month cashback offers through approved retailers. 

Eligible customers** can download the Suncorp Insurance app and link their eligible Suncorp Home or Home & Contents combined policy to the app. They then view tasks to complete within the My Home feature on the app. 

*Policies not eligible are AAMI Business/Commercial Insurance, SA CTP, Health Insurance, Life & Income Insurance and Pet Insurance). 

** The cashback rewards program is currently only offered to Suncorp Home and Home & Contents combined Insurance customers (excludes Strata, Contents only or Landlord policies).
