Suncorp 2022: A year in pictures

In our third year battling La Niña, resilience has never been more top of mind. 2022 saw several severe weather events sweep the east coast and our people and communities rallying together. As we approach the end of another eventful year, we reflect on some of the memorable moments of 2022.

12 January: Suncorp supports flood-affected customers in south-east Queensland, northern NSW and parts of Victoria.

15 February: Suncorp ranks in the Australian Financial Review's (AFR) top ten graduate employers, putting Suncorp's sought-after graduate program on the radar of thousands of university students.

19 March: Suncorp announces its plan to recruit an additional 600 people to support its customers in their recovery from floods earlier in the year.

30 March: Suncorp gained Level 2 Accreditation in the Carers + Employers Program, enabling those employees who also identify as carers to receive better support in managing their dual responsibilities.

27 April: Suncorp transforms a street in Queensland's Rockhampton from the ordinary, into one of Australia's most resilient. Featuring upgraded, innovative design features intended to protect and preserve in the face of increasingly severe weather patterns, Resilience Road puts Suncorp's 'One House' prototype into practice.

29 June: Suncorp's Head of Automation, Tim Johnson speaks out for Workplace Giving Month, sharing how Suncorp's Brighter Futures program enables his team to mindfully contribute via payroll giving, paid volunteer days, and charitable donations.

5 July: For the fifth year in a row, Suncorp Bank wins Money Magazine's Bank and Business Bank of the Year, after a positive year of change introducing Bank's Solar Home Bonus, PayLater feature, recycled debit cards and Green Upgrades Equity Home Loan, among other wins.

11 July: Suncorp community partner, Multicultural Australia hosts its popular annual Luminous Festival in Brisbane's Southbank, celebrating and welcoming thousands of new Australians to the country.

18 July: Suncorp announces the sale of its banking business, Suncorp Bank, to ANZ, and positions both the insurance and banking businesses for ongoing growth and success – benefiting employees, customers and other stakeholders.

8 August: Suncorp accelerates its net-zero ambition by 20 years, bringing forward the target to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions to 2030.

18 August: Suncorp Group announces a boost to its parental leave entitlements for employees, extending the paid primary carer leave from 16 weeks to 20 weeks, cutting out the one-year tenure for employees who wish to access parental leave, and a one-week increase offered to secondary carers accessing parental leave.

17 September: Generous Suncorp employees both in Australia and across the ditch don their lycra, joggers and hats as they walk or cycle for Suncorp's Spirit to Cure fundraising campaign, generating around $1.7 million in donations to go towards cancer research and diagnosis.

24 October: Suncorp Group CEO, Steve Johnston visits Melbourne's Maribyrnong, speaking to flood-affected customers in the region alongside customer service and claims team members.

21 November: Suncorp specialist caravan and RV insurance brand, CIL, celebrates 60 years of customer service; its employees reflecting upon how different - and fascinatingly, very much the same - the caravan life is these days compared to 1962.

29 November: Suncorp Group Insurer, AAMI announces a major partnership with What Ability, an NDIS-registered disability service.

9 December: As part of Suncorp and GIO's partnership with the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal, $500,000 in grants is awarded to 27 local community and not-for-profit groups to assist in the resilience and recovery following the devastating impact of the east coast floods in 2022.
